Proposals lost that you thought you should have won

I’ve recently written a series of articles on Ezine Articles that deal with the importance of up-front work in developing and writing proposals. I’m quite clear that some of the proposals I’ve been involved in were lost because of not doing enough work beforehand. I therefore speak with authority. I’m not proud of it but that’s part of the learning curve.
A major issue, and I’ve done this, is a tendency to want to get to the writing as quickly as possible. Deadlines can do that to you. But it’s not always deadlines. Sometimes we think we have such a clear picture on what is required that we needn’t check out other options. It’s that certainty that we are right which gets in the way of a more objective approach.
My suggestion, for what it’s worth, is back off being right. Take the extra time to check out your options, before you get down to the writing. You’re more likely to get a positive payoff.
