Watch the demographics – they’ll astound you

What would you do if I told you that the percentage of the Palestinian population under the age of 25 was 50% – in other words fully one half of Palestinians are under 25 years old.

You’d probably say – Nah – that’s not true! And you’d be right, and in a way that you might find even more unbelievable. You see, the actual percentage of Palestinians under the age of 25 is 63%, much, much more than half the population. And that’s just about double the North American percentage of 33%. Go to the Gaza Strip and the median age is 15 ½; i.e. half the Gaza population is over 15 ½ and half is under 15 ½ . In North America that median age is around 36.

What does all this have to do with proposals? I admit I’m stretching it. But if you’re involved in any proposal that deals with populations in the “developing world”, check the demographics. There’s a huge youth population out there. Right now much of that population, especially in the Middle East and Africa, is being short-changed on education, jobs and other opportunities. If they get buying power, it could be a very different story.
