Midsummer - preparing for fall

Jul 15, 12:45 |

When does your year start? Technically I suppose it begins January 1. Yet for me, the year always starts in the fall.

Part of that is due to the fact that my birthday is in September. But it’s more than that. I think it has something to do with the school year (in the northern hemisphere anyway) where there is a sense of new beginnings. That’s when the new slate of TV shows are introduced. So I tend to look at the things I want to focus on as opposed to those that I have to do.

In other words, this is a season of choices. Yes, there is regular business to take care of. What’s exciting, however, are the possibilities that come with a new season. I have a story that’s demanding my attention. I have an update to my book Ten Steps to Help You Write Better Essays & Term Papers that I want to spend time with. There’s Internet marketing that has plenty of possibilities, but where do you start and where do you find guidance?

If I’m asking these questions, what questions are you asking? What different things do you want to accomplish this fall? And what time line are you building in to pull stuff together?

At the end of May I was in Southern California and decided to pay a visit to Balboa Island, a very pretty community just south of Newport Beach. In one eclectic store I found a card with the following quote by Carl Sagan. It read:

“Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.”

I’m wondering what’s waiting to be known this fall. How about you?
